Today, we will talk about IFRA, what an IFRA certificate is, and how it benefits us.

IFRA (International Fragrance Association) - The International Association for Aromatic Substances.
The central office of IFRA is located in Switzerland.

IFRA Standards:

IFRA sets the standards for how much of a specific fragrance can be used in a specific product, such as cream or candles. They also ensure that all aromatic substances (essential oils, natural and synthesized aromatic molecules) are used according to scientific recommendations.

IFRA standards are a set of rules and regulations regarding the use of aromatic materials and form the basis of the perfume industry. These standards are followed by all reputable perfume companies.

IFRA Certificate, What Is Its Benefit for the Consumer?

Each fragrance has its own certificate confirming compliance with IFRA standards. Since the composition of each fragrance is different, it's understandable that each fragrance has different permissible usage doses for different purposes.

The IFRA Certificate is a table of categories and allowable usage percentages for each category.

- There are a total of 12 categories in the certificate, each with its subcategories.
- Each category and subcategory is a group of products in which this fragrance can or cannot be used.
- Opposite each category, the maximum percentage of using a specific fragrance is indicated.
- The percentage can range from 0 to 100.

✅ If the maximum allowable dosage is 100%, it means there is no limit on the amount of fragrance that can be used for that category.
❌ If the percentage is close to 0, it is not recommended to use the fragrance in that product.

It is important to understand that the values specified in the certificate are not recommendations on how much you should use fragrance to achieve the best result in the final product – this is the maximum amount of fragrance that can be used for a specific product, to ensure its safety for the consumer.

Main Categories and Subcategories of IFRA Certificate

So, there are 12 categories and subcategories. These include:
🔸Rinse-off and non-rinse-off cosmetics for body, hands, face, and hair;
🔸Products for children's hygiene;
🔸Solid and liquid perfumes;
🔸Candles;
🔸Room fragrances, diffusers;
🔸Household cleaning products.

We are primarily interested in 5 categories and subcategories:

🔹Massage Candles - Category 5A - Body creams/non-rinse-off products;

🔹Candles - Category 12 - candles/fragrances/air fresheners;

🔹Diffusers - Category 10A - Household cleaning products/diffusers;

🔹Interior Sprays - Category 10B - air fresheners;

🔹Soap Products - Category 9 - Rinse-off and wash products/Soap/Shampoo;

Find the relevant category and look at the maximum input percentage.
If the fragrance can be used in this product, we start testing because testing is everything)))
